Piccini ‘03 Chianti "Straw" (1.5L)
$7.99 bottle / $91.09 case - Save $12
Wow! When have you last seen Chianti in a straw basket? And a good one, too! The straw basket is called a fiasco! These bottles are somewhat round and bulbous; you can’t lay them down for ageing, they’re meant for current consumption. This Chianti is a delightful, smooth wine that’s ideal for serving with pizza or meatballs and spaghetti, or a picnic, on a red-checkered oilcloth tablecloth. It’s fun and friendly, great for a party! You can hear the strains of "when the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie," in the background. An ideal remedy for wine snobbery. Reg: $19.99

Pertinace ‘01 Barbaresco
$21.99 bottle / $250.69 case - Save $16
"This is the brother to the wildly popular Pertinace "Marcarini" Barbaresco we offered in our April newsletter. Like their Marcarini cuvee, this is one of the best Barbaresco offers I have ever seen. As Parker’s Italian critic, Antonio Galloni, writes, "The Pertinace Barbarescos are consistently among the best values of the area." This offering continues to set a new standard for value! Like the Marcarini, this is hand-harvested. After careful vinification, the wine is aged one year in oak; partly in large cask, partly in barrique. The wine is then aged for two years in bottle prior to release. The Marcarini sold out within a week. Actually, this wine is tastier now than its big brother. The spicy nose has more strawberry and raspberry fruit. The rich palate is sheer joy. I would enjoy it over the next 10 years." - Arnie Millan. Regular: $37.99

Solanes 2004 Priorat
$24.99 bottle / $284.89 case - Save $10
We love this wine! It’s a delicious, dense red representing one of Spain’s great wine regions from one of Spain’s renowned winemakers, Sara Pérez. "The 2004 Solanes is composed of 40% Carinena, 30% Garnacha, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon,10% Merlot, and 5% Syrah aged for 14 months in seasoned barrels. Deep crimson-colored, it gives up an alluring bouquet of slate, scorched earth, cedar, blueberry, black cherry, and black currant. Full-bodied and smooth textured, the wine conceals enough silky tannin to permit another 2-3 years of evolution in the cellar. Sweetly fruited, ripe, and surprisingly elegant for its size, this tasty Priorat will provide pleasure through 2020. It is also a very good value for the D.O.Q. of Priorat."
